ABOUT
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. I am a Psychologist with duel registration in both Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology and 28 years of experience in the field.
I started my career in 1993 as a Psychometrist, assessing entry level defence force recruits with psychometric tests in South Africa. After completing a MSc in Clinical Psychology in 1996, I worked in the Acute Brain Injury and Brain Injury Rehabilitation wards at 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa as Clinical and Neuropsychologist. I subsequently completed my Doctorate Degree in Neuropsychology and became head of the Department of Neuropsychology at 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria in 1998.
Shortly afterwards I moved to London, England where I worked as Clinical Neuropsychologist at the Wellington Private Hospital. Here I periodically acted as head of the Department of Neuropsychology. At this time, I also had a part-time private practice in Harley-Street, specialising in the neuropsychological assessment of non-English speaking brain injured children.
I relocated to Australia in 2003 and I worked as Clinical Psychologist at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney (RRCS) in the Brain Injury Community Rehabilitation team, Acute Brain Injury Unit, Coorabel Stroke Unit and Moorong Spinal Unit. I also worked as a Clinical and Neuropsychologist at St Vincent’s Hospital in the Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Unit. In these units I conducted evidence based psychotherapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and detailed neuropsychological assessments with patients who had brain injuries. In 2004, I became acting Director of Psychology at the RRCS before going on maternity leave.
I am currently in private practice, where I work as a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist. I conduct neuropsychological assessments to screen for a variety of neurological and medico-legal issues. I also offer Clinical Psychology therapy sessions with non-brain injured adult clients and I enjoy using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IP) to help my clients referred by their general practitioners or psychiatrists. I have also completed training in Hypnotherapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desesitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy.
Since February 2013, I have been a senior lecturer at the University of Western Sydney (UWS) where I teach Neuropsychology practice and assessment to the Clinical Psychology Masters Degree students. I enjoy this dynamic environment very much.
